Ham and Eggs are Pirates!

Now that it's summer we spend a lot of time in our tree house. Sometimes we pretend to be astronauts on the International Space Station. Or we are researchers for the National Geographic Society in the Amazon rain forest. Today we are pirates sailing on the high seas. Usually Ham is the pirate captain and I am his first mate. My job is to scare away enemy invaders with my fearsome bark!
Picture
We like to explore uncharted islands in the captains dingy. Ham rows in and out of safe harbors. We hunt for buried treasure. But we always return to the safety of our ship.

Did you know that there are groups in your community that also love to go treasure hunting? It's called "Geocaching". Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt that's happening right now, all around you. It's a fun way to go treasure hunting with new friends in your home town.

It's Summer Time!

School is out and it's finally summer vacation! On warm days Ham and I love to go swimming. There is a great pond in the woods behind our neighborhood. Our town also has a public pool near our house. But for some reason the lifeguards will not let me swim there. So we head down to the pond. All the kids swim there. Last year we learned how to do the "dog paddle". Before we go swimming we always make sure there is an adult nearby to watch us. Swimming is fun, but you have to swim safe.

This summer one of the dads in the neighborhood made a rope swing. Ham really loves to use the swing! He grabs the rope, backs up a few steps, and runs toward the pond. When the rope arches to the very top he lets go. Ham sails high in the air! I'd rather lay in the cool grass and watch. Flying is not for me.

Eggs Goes into Ham's School

Ham's school is huge! I've never seen a building like it. There were kids everywhere. I was all set to play, but Ham had to go to class. I couldn't just sit there, so followed Ham into the school. The halls were so wide and the floors were shinny and slippery. They must wax them everyday. Finally, we get to Ham's classroom.
Picture
Ham's classroom is really fun! There are bookshelves full of books! A special place to hang your backpack! There is even a corner devoted just to art! I can't wait to spend the day learning. Suddenly an adult walks into the room. She is Ham's teacher, Mrs. Rim. She doesn't seem very excited about my day of learning. Mrs. Rim makes me wait outside. I get to see Ham during recess and lunch.  By the end of the day I'm worn out. I don't even remember the ride home.
Picture
By the time we do get home I'm starving!  I am so ready for an afternoon snack. As you know, Ham and I love to make things in the kitchen. We look are for something we can make without asking Mom for help. We find crackers, bananas, and peanut butter. Ham decides to make little peanut butter and banana sandwiches. All we need is a knife to slice the bananas and spread the peanut butter. Below is a drawing that will help you make your yummy snack. (Ham give me a healthy dog biscuit to eat.)

Picture
Mini Peanut butter and banana sandwich:
Take two crackers (or wafers), place a banana slice on the bottom cracker.
Spread peanut butter on the banana and top it with the second cracker.
Be sure to clean up after you make your snack.

Eggs Rides On the School Bus!

Every morning Ham climbs up the steps of the school bus and find a seat by the window. Before the driver pulls away from the curb, Ham and I stare at each other. Today I couldn't stand it any longer. I need to ride the school bus with Ham to school! Just as the door closes I jump on board, right past the driver. I run under the seats and find the row that Ham was sitting in. I"m riding the school bus!
Picture
Everything about the bus ride was fun! We played games, listened to the radio, and even had a little snack.  We drove through neighborhoods I had never seen before. At every stop more and more kids got on the bus. By the time we got to school the bus was full. The best part was that I made a lot of new friends.

Above is a map of the road to school. You can't see them, but Ham and Eggs are on the bus. Can you help them find the correct route to Ham's school?

Ham and Eggs go to school.

It's Monday morning. This is Ham's last week of school before summer vacation. Usually we make a hot breakfast (like scrambled eggs). But today Ham overslept, so we are running a little late. We decide to have cold cereal instead. I have a special bowl. It has my name on it! Ham likes milk with his cereal. I like my cereal dry.
Picture
After breakfast Ham gets ready for school. First he makes his lunch. Usually it's a sandwich, fruit, and a cookie. He puts it all in a bright yellow lunch box. Ham lets me carry his lunch box. Then he grabs his notebook and we take off for the bus stop. I don't know why Ham wants to go to school when we are having so much fun at home. I'm curious.

Ham and Eggs Deliver Papers and Make Breakfast!

5/16/2014

Once a week Ham and I do our paper route. We deliver papers to everyone in our neighborhood. Sometimes we ride our bike. But most of the time we like to walk our route. It's a lot of work! The papers arrive at our house in a big bundle. Then we have to fold all the papers to fit into Ham's paper bag. Finally we deliver a paper to each house. Ham likes to throw the paper onto the house's front porch. If he misses, I pick up the paper and drop it off by the front door. I enjoy working with Ham. But all that work makes me really hungry.
When we get home Ham and I like to cook breakfast. Would you like to help us?

This morning we are going to make something easy and fun! SCRAMBLED EGGS!
You need one or two eggs for each friend who is eating with you. Crack the eggs into a bowl. Add a splash of milk and stir quickly with a fork. I like to add ham, bacon or sausage and some grated cheese. Heat up a frying pan on your stove top. This is where you need an adult to watch. Make sure you spray the pan with some non-stick oil. When the pan is heated up, pour in the egg mixture. Gently stir the eggs with a spatula until the eggs are fluffy. Add the extras and sprinkle the cheese on top. Turn off the stove and serve your eggs.
REMEMBER- be sure you have a parent or older friend help you out. Cooking is fun, but things get hot!

Ham and Eggs ride their bike.

Ham and I love to ride our bike together. Most of the time Ham peddles while I ride in the basket. I love the way the wind flaps my ears. Ham doesn't like it when the wind flaps my tongue. Sometimes his face gets a little wet. It's fun to race with our friends. Once Ham forgot to take me along on a bike ride. I worried that without me he might get lost. I had to use my puppy senses to find him. We were so happy to be together again!

Help Eggs find Ham in the maze. Sometimes it's hard to be away from your friends. But we can all look forward to being reunited. Do you have a friend that you miss?

Hi, my name is "Eggs". Yep, that's my real name! The people I live with gave it to me because I looked like scrambled eggs when I was a little puppy. My fur was all yellow and fluffy. Now that I'm older it is kind of a golden brown.
Picture
This is my boy, Ham. His real name is Hammond. Everyone calls him Ham for short. It's his nick name. I love Ham more than anyone else.
Picture
I've known Ham as long as I can remember. You met when we were both puppies. It seems like we do everything together. We are best friends! Do you have a best friend like Ham?
Join Ham and I on Wednesday as we begin a new adventure.
